A Win32 version of Bomns for Linux 0.99 is up. There are, however, some oddities. For instance, the same code that works beautifully on Linux seems a bit buggy in Windows (at least on my machine(s)). Nothing major, but there are some quirks I have yet to figure out. I was also completely and utterly unable to get the launcher to compile... it would seem correctly setting up GTK in Windows is a bitch. I thought this crap was supposed to be portable--jeez. Anyway, if anybody out there can do better as far as a Win32 package is concerned, you are certainly welcome to. I provided a source zip file, complete with Dev-C++ project files, so get to it.
Version 0.99 is released! Bomns for Linux is an old-school deathmatch game which uses SDL for its graphics and sound, and captures the keyboard-tapping fun of the original Bomns games perfectly, with several added modern conveniences. Despite the name, it can also be built quite easily on Windows (or other) systems due to the extreme portability of SDL.
This release marks the first appearance of the Bomns for Linux level editor, which can be used to customize your gameplay experience even more than before. There is also a brand new GTK2 launcher application that looks great and works even better. Several other changes include new sprites, new sounds, and a better framerate. This is the ultimate version of Bomns for Linux. Grab a friend and give it a shot.... read more
You read right folks, the newest release of the game EVERYbody's talking about. Even me. Anyway, go get it.
Now you can get the latest and greatest code straight from CVS. Doesn't it make you tingle?
I wanted a bbtool that showed uptime, but couldn't find one. So I did what any normal red blooded American would do, I programmed one.
It (as usual) is awesome. Maybe even more than usual...
Now there's sound and less bugs. Of course the fact that there's now sound probably means there are just more UNKOWN bugs, but that's ok.
It now officially rocks (and quite possibly rolls as well, though it's not been confirmed).
That's right, I'm releasing these way too much, but it's OK. This version rules even more than the last.
I wonder if it's mandatory that news headers end with an exclamation point? Anyway, go download v0.4, it rules.
It sure was. Download it now. It keeps tigers away.
Ok, for a couple of days they were in the right order, now they're all screwed up. How could I have uploaded v0.2 before v0.1? They were like 3 days apart and now it says they were like 6 hours apart, and in reverse order. This is STUPID. Maybe it'll fix itself...
Sent from his home planet to destroy Earth, our hero discovers something wonderful: disco music. Now he must stop the invaders at all costs! Not for earth, not for humans, but for his precious, precious disco. Catch the fever! I said catch it...
Yeah, you read right. I know it's crazy, but I think everybody and their dog should play bomns, and that includes them thar Linux folks too.
This is kinda cool. It's quickly growing into an actual Bomns game, and it's doneness is growing ever closer.
Now I'm even cooler. I thought I wouldn't release anything for a while, then POW, I do it like 5 minutes later.
Just thought all of you people out there should know this. I'll actually be releasing something as soon as I feel like it.
