I've found that Zinf appears not to like directory
names with periods in them. When searching my ~/mp3
directory to build its library automatically, it never
traverses any folders below "R.E.M./", and it never
successfully imports anything from the Pearl Jam/Vs./
folder.

You can make it add a single track manually, but in the
Pearl Jam case it mangles the file name it thinks the
track is in, so if you tell it to import Pearl
Jam/Vs./Animal.mp3, it thinks the imported file is
Pearl Jam/VsAnimal.mp3 and of course can't do anything
with it. It imported my R.E.M. tracks fine once I told
it to "Search for Music" and specified ~/mp3/R.E.M.,
but of course it would be better if it traversed below
that directory properly in the first place.

I can think of at least one other artist which
canonically has a period at the end: "moe." Help us
R.E.M. and moe. fans out, eh? :)
