&lt;p&gt;If the file refers to ontologies that cannot be opened, VINE intially shows a meaningful message (&amp;lt;file&amp;gt; cannt be open); OK.&lt;br /&gt;
But then it continues and then it also fails to create the corresponding Editor panel.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Expected behavior:  Just report the initial error message. &lt;p&gt;If they are used, they need to be last on the list, not first, and they need to have more appropriate icons. (They probably also need to have links to help, because no one will grok the difference.)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Suggest the first icon in the list be '=', the next two be broaderThan/narrowerThan.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Do we want a term called 'is_a'?
