Please build in an auto updater to keep the software up to date similar to the mechanism in Firefox.
A scheduled task could occur out of hours and trigger the update process.
This is currently not feasible (for example the Browser Exam Key changes with updated code). Also auto updates with a background service and scheduled tasks (like the Chrome updater process) is very intrusive and I personally will never, ever implement updates like that. An update when starting the browser would be acceptable, but risky if it happens directly before an exam. We might be able to implement auto updates when using the SEB Server which is currently being developed.
There are and will be SEB versions which will be automatically updated: The iOS version is updated through the App Store (the upcoming version 2.1.13 uses a new implementation for the Browser Exam Key which doesn't change when the app binary is updated). Soon there will be a Microsoft Store version of SEB for Windows, which will also be updated automatically through the store. Also we might update the Mac App Store version this year.
