sound recording stops when screensaver starts

Reproducibly, sound recording stops on my Ubuntu 11.10 Gnome desktop when the screensaver starts, when recording a Skype session, for example, if one fails to renew the local screen. When the screen is renewed, audio does not continue. Video recording continues, but then during encoding the video freezes after the sound file is exausted. Workaround is to turn off the screensaver, but this is not a long term solution. Recommend at least a warning about this in the Docs.

I was wrong. sound recording has stopped after about 30 minutes running recordmydesktop, and after about ten minutes running the recorditnow wrapper. Encoding then continues on indefinitely, running over 100% while the .ogv output file stops growing. Evidence that sound recording has stopped shows up in the write time of the audio.pcm file compared to the write times of the uncompressed video files.
