&lt;p&gt;Maybe a timed/timer mode? &lt;br /&gt;
Either a counter that records time taken to solve the puzzle (easy)&lt;br /&gt;
Or a countdown to solve the puzzle (definately harder, not sure if it's even possible to make an approximate calculation based on the algorithm).&lt;/p&gt;

I think it would be cool to add an adventure mode in which the water starts running and you have to connect the pipes the correct way before it overflows outside.
