Since 1 week now, i've got this problem
I'm under debian, using pengaol v0.96 package (i'm
working on a perl script to maintain illimited
connections open, soon in your computer ;)
well, since this week, when i try to connect to AOL,
the modem dial well, but in the Finding provider state,
it hang up.
Peng AOL says me then : unable to initialise modem.
i've try under windows, with same hardware. It work
well.. Before this week, it was working well, even if :
pengaol bug on connexion closing (sometime) not exiting
at the connexion closing.
pengaol make my modem "bug" : it is not detected after
many looped connections. perhaps a pb in modem
initialisation ?
but, i was able to connect to AOL. Since one week, it
is not possible.. ;(
Well, i'm french, so sorry for my poor english.
I'm in france, and i use the AOL Illimited "forfait ?"
for 15 euros / Month (if such details can help ;)
I thanks you because you realized my dream : a Linux
gateway for AOL ;))
And because your software is really cool ;)

Same problem here, Peng says 'Unable to initialise the modem (1)' after
dialing the number and handshaking with the other side... This is AOL
US. The modem works fine otherwise, and the account works on other
machines...
Bye for now,

Me too i have the same problem : "'Unable to initialise the
modem (1)" and i don't know where it comes...
i use a debian distribution 3.0rc1 with the option bf2.4
my modem is an internal olitec pci 56k v92...
it dials perfect ... and at the moment with "searching the
provider...", it hangs up and the message "'Unable to initialise
the modem (1)" appears...
in the past, i have use the pengaol 0.96 rpm with mandrake
8.0, its worked perfectly... but i want to use it with my
debian :)
someone help?
