&lt;p&gt;using this tool to to an DNS-update from my OpenWRT-bos worked fine. Today I had the chance to replace my x86-router by an embedded device (Routerstation Pro with mips-cpu). With the same configuration as on the old x86-router, the tool gave an DNS "FORMERR". This only happend on the new router. &lt;br /&gt;
After comparing the network-traffic from both platforms, I found that the MIPS sent an DNS-update packet with a TSIG-MAC-size of 4096 (0x1000). The x86-platform sent a size of 16 (0x0010). &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Bingo - the strange Intel-byteorder ..... I patched in the the source and now It works on both platform.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;One line of code, but great result ... (see attached patch)&lt;/p&gt;
