hp5400 with backend no recognize on mdk 10

I writes to you, because I have a scanner hp5400c, and
I am not able to make it function, my system MDK 10
recognize it but does not configure it. can you help
me? Excuse my English who is very bad.
Who do make the .log file used for snoopy ?

I have try to compile under redhat 9 with sane- back

purple glaze

set up scanner, installed cd program....went to scan and
saw about half the screen was purple....probably a bad
lens!!! We have never used it or configured it until two
days ago....and this problem immediately appeared. Can
you help me
