Hello,
I wish that a right-mouse-button click on a file would offer the possibility to copy the URL to the clipboard.
This should be easy because that URL is already indicated at the bottom of the gdmap window.
Apart from this, I would like to thank you for this very efficient program!

Dynamic colours

Would it be possible to add a 'dynamic' colour profile? That would assign the first X colour to file types (extensions) that use the most space. That way, most files would be coloured in most cases, without having to create a colour profile for each new device.

PLEASE! Make a command-line version with image+HTML output! This will be VERY useful for server owners!
By HTML I mean just a simple static page which contains generated image and regions with tooltips (maybe for large files only).

I wrote these about SequoiaView, but they apply to gdmap too:

texturing/colouring on age, depth into tree, size, different for each directory

block size based on age, other stuff

3D view - cubic media - squares reach into

Show a thumbnail on the filename tooltip

distribute tooltips - one at the top right corner of each parent directory for the currently selected file

arrows for symlinks

use magic to determine file types

keyboard navigation - between files on same map & into & out of directories & up to root & down to container

hard links - 2 way arrows similar to symlinks

block (buffered) special - texture

character (unbuffered) special - texture

named pipe (FIFO) - texture

socket - double arrow out into nowhere ?

when you double click on a file the mouse pointer is repositioned over the file you klicked on in the correct position

make subdirectories seem more raised?

Thanks, great program, very pretty very useful.

One small suggestion though, have a look at how xdu gets it's input.

This means it can be re-used for as yet un-imagined purposes.

Make a block for the space not filled by anything, for an idea of free space left in a device.

This would be ignored in any non-root directory of a device.
