If you get

. findAttr cannot find <label for="userid"> .

you must clone the git repository and recompile esniper.

Hello Michael, and thanks for your response. I encountered the bug with esniper from Git (ref 32f55dd) that I compiled myself. Is this a recent fix?

I also needed to run autoreconf -i prior to the listed steps, otherwise I would receive the following error on running make:

/opt/esniper/missing: line 81: aclocal-1.14: command not found

This is likely due to the fact that I have automake 1.15 rather than 1.14 installed. I have yet to confirm that this fixes the issue, but it looks promising.
