It's been awhile since I've done anything with DiscInsert, but I just noticed that SourceForge changed wikis on me--thus rendering the DiscInsert documentation unavailable! I've now migrated everything to the new wiki here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/discinsert and will be updating the software with the new documentation URL soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Lifehacker.com and InspectMyGadget.com have both written very positive reviews of DiscInsert and had it featured on their sites--giving DiscInsert a huge publicity boost and making me feel like just about the coolest guy on Earth. Here's the links to their articles if you're interested:

It even gave me a little motivation boost to make a new release! This time around, I added new options to the help menu to link to the documentation I'll be putting up on the wiki soon, and the auto-play/rip timer will go away now if you click the Rip or Play button manually. The newest release of DiscInsert fixes two more critical bugs. You can now select the first optical drive as the default disc drive (there was a problem when saving this setting before), and you can access all the configuration menus even after an error occurs.

An update to DiscInsert has been released that fixes two critical bugs. The ripping output location is now inserted correctly for the ripping command-line, and DVD information is downloaded from the Internet even if it's the first time you've inserted the disc.

First Release of DiscInsert

I've just made the first official release of DiscInsert--my first open source project! It displays a nice 10ft interface (complete with downloaded box art) that lets you pick to rip or play an inserted DVD.

You can configure a command line ripper and player and pass parameters such as the DVD's title, genre, director, lead actor, etc. (all retrieved from the Internet via Microsoft's Media Player servers). It also allows you to specify multiple ripping locations, and automatically detects which one has available space (if any), which you can also pass as one of the command line parameters.

Finally, there's an auto-start option that lets you automatically start ripping or playing a dvd after a certain amount of time with absolutely no input. In other words, you can have your less-computer savvy roommates rip DVDs to your computer or HTPC without the monitor or TV even being on!
